Our Council

Founded on the principles of charity, unity and fraternity, the Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Conn., and a group of parishioners. Their intent was to bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families.

John Paul the Great Council #486 was originally chartered as Middletown Council #486 on February 25, 1900.  We are a tight-knit band of about 80 brother Knights, dedicated to the support of our clergy, parish community, and pro-life and charitable causes.

Our business meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at Saint Joseph's Parish, 113 Cottage Street, in Middletown.
